Digital Play Therapy

Digital Play Therapy (DPT) recognises the change in times from traditional play materials to the embrace of modern technology and advancement in gaming.  Digital technology is just another medium/language through which children can express themselves, develop meaningful connections, practice social skills and communication, face fears, develop emotional regulation and resilience, and much more.

There is much research to date that counteracts the arguments against children using technology and limiting screen time.  A lot of the research to the negative was biased and only looked at how much time children spent on screens.  It failed to look at how children might be using technology such as if they were using it alone or with others and what they were using it for.  When used socially, for improving relationships, for family time, knowledge gain, and similar, technology has many benefits.

Digital Play Therapy is offered through Virtual Reality headsets and multiple console and computer options.  DPT is used in individual sessions and will soon be available for groups.  Children are encouraged and supported to form their own groups with other children they meet in Becoming Me Play Therapy (Explained in the Group Therapy section).
